Because many of our products begin with trees, MWV is committed to the effective and sustainable management of forestlands -- our own, as well as those of others. Responsible forest stewardship conserves vital resources, protects wildlife habitat and maintains natural beauty while meeting the need for our products. Responsible stewardship is also sound business practice and a key principle upon which we continue to build.
As of December 2007, MWV owned or managed 0.95 million acres of company forest in the United States and southern Brazil. The 135,000 acres in Brazil are owned by Rigesa, Ltda., MWV's Brazilian subsidiary. None of these lands are rainforests; they are located more than 1,000 miles (1600 kilometers) south of the Amazon area.
