Tack coat is film of asphalt binder that is used to promote adhesion between an existing pavement layer and a new asphalt or Portland cement concrete layer.
Tack coat creates a necessary bonding between pavement layers, which is critical in the transference of radial tensile and shear stresses into the entire pavement structure. A lack of bonding between pavement layers may result in slippage and may also cause concentrated stresses that may accelerate fatigue cracking a lead to total pavement failure.
Product Options
Cationic Slow Set Emulsifiers
INDULIN SBT
This highly versatile product has an excellent mixing, coating and cure rate in slow-set slurry seal, cold mixes and recycling.
INDULIN W-5
W-5 allows for superior mixing and coating at low moisture levels in cold recycling and base stabilization, and allows stockpiling of solventless cold mixes. It provides excellent performance and economics in tack coat.
Anionic Slow Set Emulsifiers
INDULIN SA-L
SA-L is the most economical and versatile product available for slow-set emulsion applications.
INDULIN ISE
ISE offers high stability and filler loadings in industrial and sealcoat applications.
Note: A fog seal often uses the same type of asphalt emulsion as a tack coat; however, the emulsion is diluted and used as a surface application to reduce ravelling and enrich dry or weathered surfaces.
Cationic Rapid Set Emulsifiers
INDULIN AA-81
This liquid product is pump and temperature stable. It is easy to handle and is even able to be pumped cold.
