MWV Announces Peter Durette as Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer

RICHMOND, VA (December 8, 2009)—MeadWestvaco Corp. (NYSE: MWV) announced today that Mr. Peter Durette has joined the company as MWV’s new chief strategy officer and has also been elected as a vice president of MWV. In this new role, Mr. Durette will oversee MWV’s strategy development and management process by integrating and aligning all strategy functions, and assisting the company’s senior leadership in developing next-generation profitable growth strategies.

He will be instrumental in continuing the company’s focus on driving long-term growth in shareholder value. In doing so, he will establish a new MWV Strategy Council to coordinate the work of the Strategic Business Units, and the Finance, Human Resources, Operations and Supply Chain groups.

Most recently, Mr. Durette served in a similar role as vice president, Strategy and Business Development for Textron, Inc., where he was responsible for designing and implementing a shareholder value-based strategic planning process to coordinate decision-making across the company’s portfolio of businesses. Prior to Textron, he was as a consultant at Marakon Associates, a leading advisory firm focused on helping companies maximize long-term value.

Mr. Durette earned a B.A. in Economics from Duke University and an M.B.A. from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
