MWV Names Edward R. Griffith Vice President of Planning and Entitlement

RICHMOND, VA (May 20, 2008) – MeadWestvaco Corporation (NYSE: MWV) today announced Mr. Edward R. Griffith has joined the company as vice president of Planning and Entitlement, MWV Community Development and Land Management Group.

In this role, Mr. Griffith will be responsible for submitting and acquiring the approval of development applications and agreements, processing federal and state regulatory permits, and managing the entitlement process for the company’s East Edisto master planned community. He will report directly to Mr. Ken Seeger, senior vice president and president, MWV Community Development and Land Management Group.

Mr. Griffith brings more than 30 years of experience in all aspects of real estate planning, engineering, development and management to the newly created position. Prior to joining MWV, he was at WCI Communities, Inc. (NYSE: WCI) for 20 years, most recently as a vice president in their homebuilding subsidiary. In this role, Mr. Griffith was responsible for acting as a liaison to Federal, State, and local government agencies, and held a strategist role in conceptual planning of large-scale communities.

“Ed brings a unique blend of strategic thinking, excellent high profile development experience and community building to this new position at MWV,” said Mr. Seeger. “His vast knowledge of real estate development and entitlements will help us move through all phases of the land value enhancement process we are undertaking on many of our tracts.”

Prior to joining WCI Communities in 1988, Mr. Griffith led public and private sector projects at leading top 500 consultant firms, including Florida-based WilsonMiller, Inc. and Texas-based Espey Huston & Associates Inc.

Mr. Griffith is a Registered Professional Engineer in Florida and Texas, and holds a BS in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Central Florida and an Executive MBA from Florida Gulf Coast University. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) and the National Society of Professional Engineers and has served on various boards and committees throughout his professional career.
