Strong Partnerships Lead to Amazing Results

MWV collaborated with long-time partner, The Scotts Company, to develop a unique sprayer for its Miracle-Gro® LiquaFeed® Ready-to-Use Plant Feeding system.

Context

The relationship between MWV and The Scotts Company has roots that go back many years. The partnership has always been fertile ground for innovation. We took our collaboration to new depths when we were tasked with designing a new sprayer system for Scotts’ Miracle-Gro LiquaFeed Ready-to-Use Plant Feeding system.

Challenge

LiquaFeed was designed to take the hassle out of feeding plants. Instead of measuring and mixing traditional plant foods, gardeners simply attach LiquaFeed to their hoses and spray as they would during regular watering. Together, Scotts and MWV needed to develop a dispensing solution that aligned with the new product and brand, making feeding as easy as watering with a hose.

Solution

The Miracle-Gro LiquaFeed Ready-to-Use Plant Feeding system is a leap forward in product performance, and a demonstration of the premium position of the Miracle-Gro brand.

MWV worked closely with the Scotts design team to create the hose-sprayer that is at the heart of the new LiquaFeed ready-to-use plant fertilizing system. A gardener simply attaches the dispenser head to his garden hose, inserts a bottle of LiquaFeed into the dispenser, and pulls the trigger to spray. It’s that easy.

With the LiquaFeed system, there’s no over feeding or underfeeding. The unique system automatically controls the amount of feed gardeners give their plants. Plus it’s premixed. So gardeners can say good-bye to the measuring and mixing required with conventional plant food.

Result

LiquaFeed became the most successful new product launch in the history of Scotts, increasing sales in the fertilizer category by 11 percent and exceeding the company’s sales projections by 300 percent. The brand and our relationship with Scotts continue to grow today.
