At MWV, making the disposable sustainable isn’t a far-off goal – it’s a reality made possible by fresh thinking and small, affordable changes.
Balancing Compostability with Sustainability

Our MWare® Balance cup stock is made from all-natural, renewable materials, including fiber source-certified paperboard, and coated with PLA, a polymer made from plants.
In addition to helping keep disposable cups out of landfills, this MWare Balance solution breaks down to soil nutrients within 12 weeks.
While commercial composting facilities that accept food service packaging currently are limited, we view composting as an important end-of-life option for food service materials. We encourage your involvement to improve the composting and recycling environments in your area. Learn more about composting through the U.S. Composting Council.
MWare is Now Certified Compostable
MWare uncoated, bleached paperboards and cup stocks coated with PLA have been certified to ASTM 6868 compostability and biodegradability standards. Cups, plates and containers made from these materials also can be certified compostable by the BPI. Please contact info@bpiworld.org or call 888-274-5646 for more information.

In Europe, we are in the process of having these same materials and retail products certified to EN 13432 standards by DIN CERTCO, represented by the logo shown on the left.
To find out more, read the press release about MWare paperboard receiving BPI certification.
These icons and the certifications they represent provide a way for consumers to quickly identify food service solutions that offer commercial composting as a sustainable disposal method.
Using these logos on finished food service packaging requires registration with and permission from BPI and/or DIN CERTCO. Please contact MWV for more information.
