Servo Technology

At MWV, servo technology is the cornerstone of our packaging machinery strategy, powering our advanced packaging machines. With servo technology we can deliver maximized speed, efficiency, flexibility, changeover and maintenance.

MWV pioneered the use of servo technology for our high speed applications in the early 1990s. Servo technology enables us to improve precision and eliminate speed-limiting mechanicals parts such as drive shafts and complex linkages.

The benefits of this precision is the ability to achieve faster production speeds than otherwise practical with mechanically driven machines. When combined with our modular technology, servos allow us to quickly respond with new platforms to meet marketplace needs, as well as compress the time required to deliver your new machine.

High Efficiency

By eliminating mechanical parts such as drive shafts and complex linkages, servo technology enables dramatic improvements in subassembly timing, resulting in greater efficiency. By assigning one servo motor per subassembly, we are better able to control torque and position to reduce machine jams and component breakages. In addition, we’re able to make quick and easy timing adjustments within each localized assembly.

Outstanding Flexibility

Servo technology has allowed us to develop truly modular packaging machines. Our design engineers are no longer constrained by mechanical drive train limitations, enabling us to optimize each and every function of the machine. With this modularity, we are able to add tremendous flexibility to our packaging machines, facilitating changes to primary containers, pack configurations and styles.

Our EvoTech® platform best illustrates the power of servo and modular technology for current and future flexibility.

Quick and Easy Changeover

With the power of servo intelligence and our modular designs, we are able to automate many of the steps required to change over our packaging machines from one primary container or package configuration to another. Servo technology enables us to constantly monitor and control the position of each subassembly of the machine, making adjustments for new package formats precise and foolproof.

During change over, the operator is guided by an onscreen checklist complete with machine changeover instructions, making it simple to get changeovers right the first time, every time without fine-tuning.

Optimized Maintenance

Through the application of servo technology, we are able to design systems with open frame architectures, facilitating outstanding access to all key areas of the machine. We can also dramatically reduce the number of parts, resulting in fewer areas for maintenance. When servo technology is combined with servo intelligence, we can design machines that provide efficient data collection and performance reporting, improving troubleshooting.

In addition, by exploiting the data of a 100 percent servo-driven packaging system, our Intelligen® technology can convert continuous operating data into sophisticated intelligence, making predictive maintenance possible without requiring extra machine add-ons.
